No puedo dar formato a memoria USB

Estoy tratando de hacer funcionar un pendrive de 16GB nueva, mmmm pero me pasa lo siguiente
- Lo primero que hice fue esperar a que apareciera el ícono en el escritoro de gnome, pero no paso nada.
- Así que acudí directamente a Gparted, pero solamente reconoce el disco duro sda.
- Reinicie el pc con el pendrive puesto y nada.
- Listé lo siguiente:

- No vi nada respecto a la pendrive (es GENERICA).
- Listé los dispositivos de /dev .... Sin pendrive puesto aparecen solo las particiones sdaX. Pero con el pendrive puesto aparece una sdb. Dije "te pille!!".
- Puse:
[root@localhost davidmet]# mkfs.ext4 /dev/sdb

¡/dev/sdb es todo el dispositivo, no sólo una partición!

- Y acá estoy, hice un intento desesperado en Window$ jaja, pero el administrador de dispositivos no termina el formateado con éxito (llega al 100% pero no logra cerrar el formato).
Algún idea de como formatearla?? Gracias.

Si en ambos sistemas falla, se me ocurre que es un problema del dispositivo o del puerto USB (o del mother, que no lo controla bien).
Podrías probar conectándolo en otro puerto, otra PC, o decirnos si probaste en el mismo puerto/PC otro dispositivo similar con éxito (tengo una PC con un puerto que da correctamente corriente a los dispositivos y detecta bien un mouse óptico, pero va mal con los pendrives).

Probé en 4 pc's diferentes y nada, lo mismo que en mi pc. Pero en un 5º pc con window$ pude formatear en fat32, pero sale que no tiene permisos de escritura. MMMMMMMMMM.....

Pues ahora no puedo ver la respuesta (me da igual que sea muy extenso, quiero verlo). Ahora que te reconoce el pincho USB, ejecuta nuevamente el resultado del comando dmesg.

¿Qué sistema de ficheros tiene el pendrive? Cuando lo quitas del PC, ¿lo desmontas primero? El sistema está esperando a que el dispositivo escanee algo. ¿Por casualidad no lo habrás montado en Windorls y quitado sin extraerlo primero? Si es así, inicia con Windows, mete el pendrive, espera a que se monte y o bien apaga el sistema sin quitarlo, o extráelo de forma segura.

Haz un "fdisk -l /dev/sdb", para mostrar la tabla de particiones del dispositivo sdb, en caso que no obtengas salida alguna referente a particiones, deberas crear alguna con "cfdisk /dev/sdb"<< ten mucho cuidado con esta operación.

Se me cayó el pendrive al suelo, lo conecte al pc y funcionó, reconoció las particiones y todo..... pero luego de 1 min volvió a morir.
