Saludos.

Anyone speaks Spanish or Arabic?

Hi everybody. Most of you certainly know about http://www.mandrakelinux.com. This was our first ever website (its design and content changed much over years though), and it's also, with Club, one of the most internationalized website. Currently 15 languages are well supported, including Russian, Japanese, Chinese, Indi and many others...

There is even *both* Portuguese from Portugal and Portuguese from Brazil! Although it's far from being perfect, this website has been, and remains, our best tool to expand Mandrakelinux' popularity since many people actually... don't speak English. Now, I'm concerned about two facts: 1) the Spanish version was well maintained until the end of 2002, but is now lacking serious support. 2) although I had several good contacts, a version in Arabic is still not underway. The Spanish section really doesn't need much work, only a few updates. On the other hand, the Arabic section needs to be built from scratch...

Recently, someone suggested to me that I should perhaps ask on Club, and thus I'm doing, and it's excellent opportunity since I'm aware that I'm not enough posting on Club. So if some of you are interested to join Mandrakelinux' great team of translators, write to me directly! (gduval at mandrakesoft com>).

See ya,
Gaël.

# 977: Ya está hecho

La petición fue hecha hace pocos días, por Félix Martos, y estamos esperando respuesta de MandrakeSoft.

Os copio y pego el mail que llego a Félix ( espero que no le importe ):

Hello Luis, Georges, Daniel, Felix, Yvon, Mauricio, Fernando, Philippe, Victor!

Thank you all for answering my message on Club!

Here are a few details about how we proceed: we have a reference web
server with contents in all languages. There is one ssh account for
Spanish. It gives access to English content (and others) in read-only,
and Spanish content in read-write mode.

Contents are a mix of text/html and php. For instance, for news, there
is a file call new.php3 which includes the following:

___

June, 1st 2004  - Mandrakemove "2": first Snapshot is available
- The first development release of the upcoming new Mandrakemove based on Mandrakelinux 10.0
is now available for test purpose. You can download now, and report bugs.

___ The goal is to read the file in the english directory and edit the file with the same name in the spanish directory to translate it to Spanish. It's not difficult, and it doesn't take much time since the Spanish section is already well translated (it only needs to be updates). Anyway, it will certainly be easier to follow updates if you spend much time on the net everyday! It will also be easier if you have at least basic knowledge in editing HTML files on a remote server and know how to use ssh to connect to the server and editors such as vi or emacs. Now, please tell: are you scared with that or do you think it's easy? Tell me and we're going to arrange something : only one of you will have the ssh access codes to the server for security reasons but you can all participate. I mean: I have to find who can be the coordinator for spanish translations! :-) There is also a need for the Mandrakelinux newsletter in Spanish since the former translator has just left for other activities. Si alguien quiere colaborar con la traducción de la web de Mandrake tan sólo se tiene que apuntar a las listas de Mdktrans.
Contra más seamos, menos trabajo tendremos que hacer cada uno :o)
